Centre récréatif Marcel-Bonin
The Marcel-Bonin Recreation Centre was built in 1932 and extensively renovated in the early 1980s. It is owned by the City of Joliette. In addition to serving minor hockey and the local figure skating club, the Marcel-Bonin Arena offers public skating hours from September to April.
The arena is named the Marcel-Bonin Recreation Center in honor of hockey player Marcel Bonin, known not only to the people of Lanaudière, but also to the population of Canadian provinces and American states where hockey plays an important role. With the Canadiens hockey club, he won the Stanley Cup three times between 1957 and 1962, the years during which he played for this team. Number 18 was a favorite among Quebecers for his fighting spirit and determination. Marcel Bonin also played with the Detroit Red Wings and the Boston Bruins. He had to end his hockey career following a delicate spinal surgery. Marcel Bonin is now retired and lives in Joliette.
